L'artista

A Franco-American adventurer alternating between France and the United States, Luc Hardy is passionate about expeditions to distant lands. His curiosity for the world and his taste for adventure, born on the family farm in Brittany, later matured in the remotest of countries and is now affirming itself through a decisive and exacting photographic style. When he is not resting in his tepee in Connecticut, he pursues his passion, travelling frequently all over the world, taking photographs or reporting on distant lands, often for international charities. A member of the New York Explorers\' Club, Luc Hardy has undertaken a number of scientific expeditions in the polar regions and is the author of Antarctic Adventure (2005), Greenland – Impressions (2007), and Arctic – Transitions (2008). The profits from the sale of these photos are paid to environmental organisations Pax Arctica and Green Cross International, the NGO founded by Mikhail Gorbachev .  ... Vedi di più Vedere di meno

Sull'opera

Hunting ? A vanishing Way of Life: From Ittoqqortoormiit, our sledge dogs take us across the bay on ice and slush to the nearby village of Uunartoq in search of the last polar bears of the season. The hunters tell us that the number of Greenlanders living exclusively off hunting has dropped from 8,000 to only 2,000 in the past ten years. Protecting bears is not easy but the government is taking some action to assure the species? survival as their natural habitat comes under threat from climate change. Traditionally Inuit hunters kill in total about 250 bears annually. Today, only Greenlanders with valid hunting permits can shoot a bear and the hunting season is closed from July 1 to September 30. In 2006, under pressure from biologists, the government introduced the first hunting quota for polar bears : 150 per season. June 2007
