El artista

Christine Ellger was born in Germany in 1948. Her interest in photography was heightened with the advent of digital photography and the infinite possibilities it offers in terms of processing. Since she retired in 2010, Christine Ellger has been continually photographing the world she has been discovering on her travels. She collects photographs and subsequently retouches them, conferring a magical aspect to them stemming directly from her imagination. The originality of her work is thus based on its fantastical and hyperrealist rendering. At first glance, the spectator cannot make out the photographic technique used. Hyperrealist style is the identical reproduction of a photograph as a painting. This painting is often so realistic that the spectator comes to question the very nature of the work. This well and truly applies to Christine Ellger’s bewitching world.  ... Ver más Ver menos

My images do not have a sociocritical message, they are not documentation, I want to show through my works the romantic side of life.

CHRISTINE ELLGER

Sobre la obra

Since childhood, Christine Ellger has pledged an undying passion for photography. References to childhood are also an integral part of her work. We dive into her artistic world in the same way as if we were opening a book of illustrated tales. Mushroom houses, valleys as rollercoasters and books used as stairways to the stars, each of her images evokes fantastic and incongruous worlds in which the spectator is invited to lose themselves. By following paths that cut through the fog or by climbing flying ladders, she uses any devices that will sweep us away into the wildest of dreams. Christine Ellger refers to Romantic painting, which is based on the passions and feelings of the artist. In Germany, Caspar David Friedrich and his landscapes charged with unusual atmospheres inspired the photographer, particularly through the impression of solitude and nostalgia emanating from them.
