De kunstenaar

Of Russian origins, Nodia Ilya was born in Urai in 1989, in West Siberia. He later moved to Omsk, a small city located a little further east, where he lived for around twenty years and trained as a technical engineer. This period determined the production of his first images and the early days of his professional career, which he began at the age of 23 in Moscow as an advertising photographer. He still lives in the Russian capital today and plies his trade in various fields, from portraiture to reporting, from wedding photography to studio shoots. His artistic work is inspired by the world of film and his images seem to stem straight from a film screening, in terms of lighting, costumes, sets, and the framings that all refer to the silver screen. Nodia Ilya presented his photographs in 2014 during an exhibition entitled "Portraits of Passers-by".  ... Lees verder Less minder

Over het werk

Just 27 years young, the Russian artist has an impressive range of technical and artistic skills. Combining photographic styles and various sources of inspiration, he also refers to the seventh art and mainly produces cinematographic portraits. Whether it be scientists deep in thought regarding artificial intelligence or ordinary people lacking in recognition disguised as superheroes, the photographer dazzles us with his mastery of sets, lighting, costumes, and framing. He revives the atmosphere of films and spectators can easily imagine that they're looking at the freeze frame of a film paused mid-screening. Nodia Ilya adds: "I've always wanted to create something more than just a photograph. I'm attracted to people and their past, dramatic scenes, and challenges. I like cinematic style and try to create my works based on my feelings and experiences."

PEDRO JARQUE KREBS

Ferocious beauties isolated from all context, as though they had been captured in their most secret intimacy, this is the remarkable artistic gesture of Peruvian photographer Pedro Jarque Krebs, restoring to the animals some of their stolen dignity. After studying philosophy at t...

THIBAUD POIRIER

Born to expatriate parents, Thibaud Poirier spent his childhood in many cities around the globe, but out of Houston, Montreal, Buenos Aires, and Tokyo, it was the latter that has influenced him the most: “I discovered architecture there, in particular by Tadao Ando, and it became...

ALFREDO SANCHEZ

Alfredo Sanchez was not predestined for photography. Born in Mexico in 1954, he studied law and took up a career in the private sector. “My free time was spent playing tennis, horse riding, and let’s not forget my favourite pastime: photography,” he says. Much later, towards the ...
