About the artwork

"Photography is a means of exploring, inventing, and escaping. Photography is a refuge for me" affirms Italian artist, Cristina Coral. Delicate and poetic, the work of the young woman seems to present her inner emotions by bringing her observations of reality, her inner thoughts, and the emotional baggage of her memories into the light of day. For her, each image has a soul and this one in particular, which completes her series Habitat. Taken in 2014 in Italy, she photographed a figure from behind, within a setting with a filmic aesthetic and a focus on the offscreen space. The female subject, dressed in a red dress, explores a deserted beach after a day of rain, a landscape full of silence and nostalgia. The natural lighting and old-fashioned colours give vital intensity to Cristina Coral?s compositions, which capture dreamlike moments. She thus opens up the doors of a mysterious world, on the borders of her imagination.
