THE BIG FAMILYAbout this photograph
The series of images by Brazilian artist Jackson Carvalho presents us with one of the most majestic portraits of wildlife photography today. He has travelled to where conservation areas subsist, thus bearing witness to the last vestiges of a threatened wilderness. Entitled Adventures on the Savannah, this captivating series was produced in 2010 in Port Elizabeth, a South African city located in the province of Cap-Oriental. Through the saturation of the colours, the reduction of background details, and the close-ups with the animals, Jackson Carvalho extracts the wild animal from its original context and enables us to discover it from a new perspective. Whether it be a family of elephants on the march or a tender lion, we can only marvel at the beauty and power of the fragile natural world that the photographer so exquisitely presents to us. Beyond simply paying tribute, Jackson Carvalho seeks to uncover the mystery of a land and culture that he believes will remain forever inaccessible to him.Read more Read less

The Brazilian photographer?s work no longer needs an introduction, nor do the many prizes he has received throughout his prolific career. Mastering several photographic fields, from advertising to fashion, from the nude to architecture, it is, however, through his portraits of wildlife that Jackson Carvalho excels at his art. He produced his first images in childhood, thanks to the disposable camera his aunt gave him as a gift. He decided to make this growing passion his career and trained with major artists at the International Center for Photography in New York, at the International Photography Institute in São Paulo, and the Future London Academy. Among his countless distinctions, Jackson Carvalho has received a gold medal at the Trierenberg Super Circuit in Linz, Austria and at the National Wildlife Federation Photo Contest in 2014, also receiving honourable mentions at the Prix de la Photographie PX3 in Paris in 2015 and the International Color Awards in 2016.
