MORE INFORMATION ABOUT DELIVERY

The artist

Daniel Metz lives in Grenoble, in the Rhône-Alpes region in France. It is therefore no accident that the mountain environment has become an important leitmotiv in his photography. Alongside his activity as a graphic designer and image professional, he has developed a passion for the 8th art, a passion that allows him to capture the beauty of the landscapes he encounters and to share his vision. He thus prefers to adopt the approach of an amateur photographer, in the best sense of the word, in order to express his own tastes, without the constraints of commissions or profitability. A fan of naturalism, above all he strives to create photos that are as faithful as possible to the reality he perceives, so that the spectator can experience the same pleasure and fascination he feels in the face of the harmony and grandeur of nature. His series on China is intended above all as a testament to a traditional past that is now dying out, owing to the major changes and booming development of modern China.  ... See more See less

My approach is to find in landscape photography the right balance between realism and the idealisation of reality. The search for an ideal photo is an endless quest.

DANIEL METZ

About the artwork

During a recent trip to China, notably in the south of Guilin, Daniel Metz became enamoured with the region's landscapes, comprising thousands of small mountains in the form of very jagged peaks - the karstic reliefs characteristic of Guangxi, which is nonetheless an industrial and highly urbanised area. Daniel Metz works with photographs like a painter constructing a painting, after a period of analysis, studying the composition and chromatic choices. Based on his background as a theorist of colour, the subject of many publications, he makes it a point of honour to showcase this aspect as an essential element of imagery. In his works, the juxtaposition and contrast of colours effectively enable the forms to be revealed and accentuate the depth of the landscape. These characteristics confer a very graphic and pared-down dimension to his photographs, in a similar manner to Japanese engravings.

Interview

Why photography? Sight is the sense that brings me the most pleasure. More than taste, hearing, or touch. Photography, even if it is a reduction of a real scene, can sometimes provide strong visual sensations.Your inspiration (artistically, in partic...
