Amaury Dubois

FERRARI 328

About this photograph

Porsche, Ferrari, Corvette, Thunderbird... Amaury Dubois reveals his new series about emblematic vintage cars, which he exhibited in February 2016 for the occasion of the 41st Salon Rétromobile de Paris. He is constantly reinventing pictorial space in his photographic practice, by striving to capture moments when nothing is stable or straight. Inspired by the practice of modern Cubist David Hockney, he assembles fragmented shots of a single subject seen from different points of view. The artist thus counters the conventional photographic framework and rejects the laws of traditional perspective. Through this singular procedure, he questions our relationship to time and fixes it on photographic paper. He does not produce a representation but a true interpretation, in which the notions of speed, movement, and power are layered and imbricated.

The Artist
Amaury Dubois

Born in 1980 in Lille, Amaury Dubois trained for four years in graphic arts at the Institut Saint-Luc de Tournai in Belgium. From a graffiti-covered studio to photographic compositions, his artistic style is made up of assemblages of several shots that he brings together in a single overall image. Through this singular procedure that he names curvism, he attributes a new temporal dimension to his works and disturbs the spectator's field of vision. Because there's nothing straight in reality. Because it's my choice to destroy straight lines. His roots can be found in the Cubist movement, among the New Realists and particularly César with his compressions of metal. The works of Amaury Dubois were exhibited in Singapore in 2016. They now belong to numerous collections in Luxembourg, Switzerland, Holland, as well as Brazil and the United States. He regularly collaborates with brands such as Smart, McDonald's France and the advertising agency TWBA.
