ESCAPES AND TALES OF FREEDOM IVAbout this photograph
In the most recent series by photographer Anatol de Cap Rouge Escapes and Tales of Freedom created in 2016, he reveals the inner conflict that has haunted him since childhood. Owing to his childhood in constant motion, he uses several antagonistic symbols in his fantastical images to express the feeling of upheaval that he still experiences to this day. He thus questions our existence: "Is it still possible to feel free today? Even if we escape from everything that seems to entrap us and hold us back?" Anatol de Cap Rouge strives to tell a story to spectators, as though they were looking at the freeze frame of a film during a screening. His horizontal compositions are permeated with unusual colour combinations, lively details and extreme contrasts. They adopt the format of the movie screen when his models pose with the virtuosity of actors in front of the lens.Read more Read less

Of Romanian-French origin, Anatol grew up in a lot of different places and environments - due to his parent‘s worldwide engagements, the family was constantly on the move. From his early childhood on, travelling into his colorful dream worlds has always been a way to escape from the high expectations and requirements his family imposed on him. His dream worlds became a very important reality - something he could take with him wherever he was forced to move. Or to put it in his words: I became aware of the magnitude and significance of distancing myself from the world as far as possible around the age of 8.With his art, Anatol found an instrument to open the curtains and show his dream worlds to a greater audience. THE DREAM SERIES is his first series in photography. Welcome to Anatol‘s Worlds.
