Another World #2About this photograph
The Russian photographer pays tribute and cites, with an extremely contemporary patina, forms of art belonging to the past. His silhouettes first of all pay tribute to ancient art. They become modern caryatids which supply all the lines of the composition and which construct the image. The female figures photographed by the artist recall Tanagras and also refer to this period. Pop culture also inspires his stylistic and iconographic choices. One naturally thinks of sculptures by the British artist Allen Jones with his erotic, as well as functional, approach to the female body.Read more Read less

Ilya Rashap was born in Russia in 1979. Beyond just a mimetic function, he tries to photograph something which does not exist. Aesthetics are important but it is not enough for the photograph to be beautiful. Whether a landscape or a portrait, a good photograph should be above all a metamorphosis of reality and appeal to the viewer’s imagination.
