Sakura bloomAbout this photograph
The first journey that Nicolas Jacquet undertook outside of his hometown was to Japan. He has returned regularly for his professional activities and it became the playground for creating his first images. He dedicates these poetic photographs to the Sakura, ornamental cherry trees that blossom in the spring throughout the country. The Japanese customarily celebrate this period with Hanami, which consists of admiring the ephemeral beauty of the flowers by gathering under the trees. The blossoming of these cherry trees has long inspired Japanese artists, throughout the country?s history. Nicolas Jacquet mentions that he was influenced by the paintings of Utagawa Hiroshige, one of the great masters of Japanese engravings, who inspired the Impressionists, Van Gogh in particular.Read more Read less
