L'artista

Born in 1961 in Brooklyn, Richard Silver lives and works in New York. He began to travel around the world in 2001 when he took up photography. His travels have been a source of inspiration for his art. He is particularly interested in depicting eminently touristic places and symbolic monuments. Little by little, he has perfected his photographic technique reaching a status of renowned landscape photographer. Since 2002 he has exhibited at the prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, followed by individual and collective exhibitions mainly in the United States.  ... Vedi di più Vedere di meno

Sull'opera

Taken from distanciated and elevated viewpoints (the tops of buildings, or from a helicopter), Richard Silver?s photographs are subsequently reworked using Tilt-Shift. This technique, increasingly sought after in the field of photography or advertising, consists of giving real elements the appearance of a mini model. It enables movements of focus, tilt and decentring to be obtained, which correct the perspective and sharpness of the image while modifying the depth of field. The out of focus zones in the foreground and background and the extremely reduced depth of field produced using Tilt-Shift are similar to macrophotography techniques.<cr/>This distanciation allows Richard Silver to present a unique and playful view of the world, creating distance and lending an unreal dimension to his subjects. The photographer deliberately leaves blurred areas in the composition to reinforce the imaginary aspect of his landscapes. The attractive colours and bright lights accentuate this playful aspect of the photographs, bringing him closer to the aesthetic of certain video games and providing the illusion of a virtual world.<cr/>
