Ando Fuchs is purely self-taught. In his professional life pre-photography, as in his photography career, he has never taken classes or enrolled in courses. Emotional experience is the best of schools: “Instead of asking myself which camera or lens I use, tell me what you feel when you look at the photo,” he likes to say. Born in 1966 in Tyrol, he lost his parents at a tender age and was raised by an adoptive family in this mountainous region between Austria and Italy. In his early forties, he started photography without any particular project or well-defined style. It was on his first trip to Venice that he understood that black-and-white and street photography would become his preferred modes. Humans are always central to his work and the slices of life that he captures in each photo. While he does not affirm any key influences, he appreciates the photos of Sebastio Salgado, Ansel Adam, and Helmut Newton. Today, when he is not out on assignment, he resides in his hometown of Tyrol and his work is regularly shown in Italy, Austria, or Germany. ... Voir plus Voir moins
