The artist

Ilya Rashap was born in Russia in 1979. Beyond just a mimetic function, he tries to photograph something which does not exist. Aesthetics are important but it is not enough for the photograph to be beautiful. Whether a landscape or a portrait, a good photograph should be above all a metamorphosis of reality and appeal to the viewer’s imagination.  ... See more See less

ILYA RASHAP

About the artwork

The silhouettes photographed by the Russian photographer are placed at the centre of the composition and are the unique subjects of his works. Ilya Rashap creates the illusion of light from a projector placed behind his models so that they appear in Chinese shadow. The use of the luminous halo is not anecdotal. It becomes the symbol of the expression, including the form of the viewer and the artist?s eye. It also displays what appears in the viewfinder and pays tribute to art photography.
