Milton Greene is one of the most famous American photographers. Born in 1922 in New York, he discovered photography at the age of 15 and decided to devote himself entirely to it. Rather than attend university, he chose to become an apprentice at the fashion magazine Harper’s Bazaar . He learned fast and rose up the ranks: by the age of thirty, he was a fashion photographer for Vogue , Vanity Fair , Esquire , and Look . It was on a shoot for the latter that Milton Greene met Marilyn Monroe. From then on, he became her friend, her official photographer, and then her associate. His photos of Marilyn are world famous and the one representing her in a tutu were referred to by Time Life as one of the three most famous photos of the twentieth century. While all of the stars of the 1960s and ‘70s passed before his lens, the art of Milton Green went well beyond the simple glamour photo on glazed paper, he knew how to stage his subject to lead them to discover a part of their personality.
