Pascal Mouri represents a surrealist world. Through his lens, the French artist perceives a fantastical world defying the laws of gravity. Self-taught, he joined the world of the fine arts via painting. Nevertheless, attracted by the infinite possibilities it offers, his heart gradually strayed towards digital photography. For his first studio portraits, he honoured his first passion and adorned his models with body-paint. He later put away his paintbrushes to focus entirely on photography and editing his shots on the computer. The field of possibility opened up: it was a revelation for the art photographer! To attain even more freedom, he works exclusively in the studio, so as to master the lighting and adapt things as desired. His creativity now knows no bounds. He uses an abundance of materials, fragmenting and levitating elements… Pascal Mouri’s work offers a transition to a new, gravity-free dimension. Paradoxically, these dreamlike representations are inspired by the world of fashion but also some of the great masters of the Renaissance such as Michelangelo and Caravaggio.
