The artist

It was in the heart of London, on Portobello Road, the artists’ quarter, that Ingrid Rasmussen chose to live and establish her photo studio. An obvious choice for the woman born in the English capital in 1976 and who has made her city into one of her main subjects of photographic exploration. Her first book Takeaway was about the diversity and multiculturalism of London. She later collaborated on the collection of StyleCity travel guides by Thames & Hudson publishers, with a strong focus on photography and whose first edition was dedicated to London. Later came Paris, New York, and Barcelona. When she leaves her city, it is often at the request of lifestyle magazines such as Conde Nast Traveller, Vogue, or Sunday Times Style to carry out reportages all over the world. Other collaborations with Elle Decoration, Architectural Digest, or Vogue Living have gradually led her to specialise in interiors. Her tenth and most recent book The New Creative Home, London Style (Thames & Hudson) brings together photos of the most beautiful interiors of London apartments in all of their diversity, belonging to artists, designers, or architects. Her series on wilting flowers for YellowKorner is part of a personal project.  ... See more See less

About the artwork

A specialist in interior photography, Ingrid Rasmussen presents here a personal work on flowers. But far from bouquets of peonies or roses in striking colours, instead, the photographer proposes compositions with flowers as they wilt. It is an original choice to say the least and the goal is to present the “beauty of flowers in their imperfect state of decay”. The flowers are laid flat and the compositions are carefully wrought, with the arrangements of colours recalling paintings and obliging us to see these flowers differently, thus giving them a new lease on life.
