Born in Sweden, Håkan Strand started his professional career as an anaesthetist in a traumatology centre in Stockholm. In the course of extensive travel in Scandinavia, a growing passion for art photography was formed, and Strand took the time to acquire technical knowledge and perfect his practice until it had sufficiently matured. It was during a visit to the United States in 1991 that he discovered the flourishing interest in the 8th art among members of the New York arts scene. This moment corresponded in Håkan Strand's eyes to a number of invitations and new sources of influence for his own work. The many photography prizes that he has obtained, such as the 2008 Prix de la Photographie in Paris, or the International Photography Awards prize in the United States in 2010 have led to numerous publications and international exhibitions that have encouraged him in the accomplishment of his teenage dream of becoming a professional photographer.
