A young promising artist, French photographer Johanna Pernot studied literature in Strasbourg and Berlin before passing her professional university teaching examination in modern literature in Paris. A writer, translator, journalist and, more recently, an art critic at the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles, this multi-talented artist enjoys many activities relating to travel, language, and images. A tireless globetrotter, she has travelled the world in search of new sources of inspiration. Marked by Cubist experiments and the polaroid portraits of British artist David Hockney, Johanna Pernot made her first photo-collage in 1999 in London, capturing Trafalgar Square from all angles. By dismantling the photographed subject, she defies optical laws by deconstructing what appeared to be a given, to question our obvious conclusions and question the images.
