About the artwork

This idealized landscape by Matt Wolford depicts faraway and surreal places that are difficult to identify to the extent that their details, colour contrasts and symmetrical motifs seem to be mystified and fantastical. As creative experiments, each of the British photographer's images has been carefully put together to amplify the beauty of nature and reveal a parallel world created in his imagination. Fascinated by surrealism and the 19 th - century transcendentalist movement, his enchanting photographs are digital collages composed of parts of landscapes and animals. "The Last Unicorn 1" raises the question of the existence of the legendary unicorn in nature. He says: "In all of my work, I deconstruct nature, whether it's a landscape or a flower, or even food, and then I reconstruct these natural elements to create my own world in which things don't really exist. This certainly comes from a juvenile desire to break everything down and put it back together, with major interest in science and nature."
