MORE INFORMATION ABOUT DELIVERY

The artist

Dave Shandley was born in a little English town not far from Liverpool, in Greater Manchester. A professional engineer, he had a career in geo-spatial technology while also developing his passion for photography from a very young age. At 23, he developed his own images in his photography lab. Since then, he has replaced his negatives with a professional digital camera that accompanies him on all of his European expeditions. Dave Shandley’s enthusiasm also comes through in his predilection for watercolours. It is therefore not surprising to imagine oneself contemplating surrealist painting when viewing his landscape photography, given the extent to which the composition and choice of colours stem from the pictorial register. His dramatically beautiful images have been published in a number of specialised magazines. “Bluebell Wood” also won the artist third place in the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) contest in 2014.  ... About the artwork

Nature gradually crystallises under the lens of Dave Shandley, giving way to dazzling panoramas that exalt our imagination. The way he plays with light and the various natural components that surround it give his images a mystical charm. The photographs have to be taken at exceptional moments in order to render the surreal aspect of the landscapes. What is shown is not a particular moment that has been accidentally captured but, on the contrary, a highly controlled composition based on precise knowledge of the location and climate conditions. These must be extremely favourable. The human presence is systematically banished from these extraordinary images, although certain structures (like a lighthouse or a waterwheel) spark narratives for the spectator.
