About the artwork

How does the artist express the monumentality of the architecture that surrounds him? Navigating through the streets of Hong Kong can be a difficult experience, particularly since the city is one of the most densely populated in the world. With around 7 million people living within 1 100 square kilometres, it is the city with the most skyscrapers over 150 metres high. The young artist Andy Yeung thus uses various photographic techniques while also delivering highly personal testimonies that subvert all notions of traditional perspective. Whether looking up to take in the full expanse of these structures, or taking to the airways with a drone for the "Urban Jungle" series, his optical illusions are striking. In this image, the photographer manages to capture the lifestyle of millions of people in Mong Kok, one of the most lively neighbourhoods of the city, where historic streets lit with neon lights are full of boutiques and stalls of all kinds. "I wanted to use a special perspective to show how the people live in the most densely populated city in the world, Hong Kong" he affirms.

I hope this series can get people thinking about high density living in one of the richest cities in the world, Hong Kong is a great city.
