About the artwork

These photos were taken during the Body and Face Art 2018 exhibition at the Parisian make-up school Make Up For Ever, for which Clovis Lalanne is the official photographer. They portray the end-of-year projects by two students: Capucine by Charlotte and Meet the Wilderness by Line. The students had to create a trompe l'oeil graphic body painting. "In order for the trompe l'oeil to work, I used pure, indirect light for improved diffusion and to soften shadows", the photographer explains.

The artist

Clovis Lalanne is entirely self-taught. Although he didn’t attend a specific school, during his youth in West Africa, from Mali to Guinea and Senegal, he was a student of the “school of life”. Aged 25, he returned to France and became a freelance photographer. He has worked for various fashion and haute coiffure companies, including the LVMH group and the Saint Laurent brand. He also became the official photographer for the Parision make-up school Make Up For Ever. He assists students with their projects, in particular for the final evening where they are awarded their diplomas. The series presented here showcases the work of two of the school’s students. Clovis Lalanne also returns regularly to Africa, creating photo reports where human relations are the primary focus. A true jack of all trades, a few years ago he turned his hand to video production with the company Waraden Productions.  ... See more See less

CLAUDE DEGOUTTE

“The wall belongs to the ‘retards’, ‘inept’, ‘rebels’, ‘simpletons’, to all those with a big heart. It is the blackboard of the school of life,” says French-Hungarian artist Brassaï in his famous back Graffiti. A veritable ode to urban art, Brassaï’s reflection was to mark the a...
