MORE INFORMATION ABOUT DELIVERY

The artist

A professional artist, By Flavie trained in several artistic mediums from a young age, such as painting, drawing and photography. A former student of the Louvre School, she was able to complete her practical artistic knowledge with theoretical studies. The artist nonetheless draws her sources of inspiration from the world around her, finding all kinds of material to explore through travel, the natural world and all of its visual phenomena. Her compositions in abstract and organic forms represent an imaginary and sensitive world, with multiple interpretations. Various techniques are associated in her works, from oil painting, to gouache or Indian ink, all of which are eventually photographed to give the work as flat and smooth a surface as possible, as well as improved graphic rendering.  ... About the artwork

The works of By Flavie evoke geographical maps of an imaginary world testifying to the artist's taste for nature and travel. These images comprise colourful fragments and curvilinear forms spanning a single plane in a chromatic palette dominated by blue, yellow and green. Painted instinctively, without preparatory sketches, these compositions are then photographed and printed. The use of photography effectively reinforces the graphic character of the artwork, the surface of which becomes flat and perfectly smooth. Through her approach to painting, abandoning figuration in favour of informal painting, the work of By Flavie recalls that of artists such as Jackson Pollock, with whom she shares the automatism of her approach, as well as the fragmentation of the picture plane, or André Lanskoy, for the rhythmic importance accorded to colour and forms, these revealing here an intimate world highly charged with emotion.
