The artist

If Pierre Bessard has had several lives, they have all centred on his greatest passion: photography. He began as a photographer for AFP in 1987, before joining the photo service at VSD magazine, where he remained for ten or so years. After joining the REA news agency, he became a photojournalist focused on international economics; while there he developed a real passion for China and North Korea. He has travelled to these countries many times, returning with photo reports and documentaries. “I was one of the very few Westerners to be able to meet Kim Il-Sung several times and photograph him when he was still alive, he recounts. “At the time, I even transferred the very first phototelegraph from North Korea to Hong Kong.” In 2011, he founded Editions Pierre Bessard in Paris, devoted to photography and whose ambition is to “cover the world with images through the prism of innovation and creativity, as well as through originality, passion, and excellence.”  ... About the artwork

Journalist, publisher, and globetrotter, Pierre Bessard has travelled throughout Asia for professional reasons for many years, and has a real fascination for China and North Korea. In this personal project, he brings photos, collage, and sometimes painting together in his works, a little like Icelandic artist Erro, to convey an idea of North Korea, a country that as a journalist, he was one of the first to visit.

DAMIEN DUFRESNE

As Damien Dufresne says himself: "I let my hands do the talking". His approach is totally new in that it's at the crossroads of makeup, body art, artistic direction and photography. The resulting complexity, technicality and beauty are impressive. Damien Dufresne, a make-up arti...
