The artist

Born in Germany, Ina Jungman spent part of her childhood in Japan before moving to California as a teenager. Exposed to many different landscapes and cultures, she explores the world visually. She was very young when her parents gave her her first camera. She took it with her everywhere, to high school, then to UCLA, where she studied visual arts, and then to the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle (Germany) where she dedicated herself entirely to photography. In 2011, Ina Jungman graduated and launched her career as a professional photographer. Her point of difference is her favourite technique: double exposure. However, the artist does not limit herself to two exposures, she prefers to accumulate them to create highly poetic, dreamlike works. She aims to capture atmospheres between reality, subjectivity, and abstraction. To this end, she uses various procedures: superimposing negatives in the darkroom, image processing on the computer, or effects achieved directly with her digital camera. Besides the aesthetic rendering of her creations, Ina Jungman above all hopes to spark the public’s imagination. Now internationally renowned, her art is exhibited in all of the major city centres worldwide (including Los Angeles, Zürich, Cologne, Munich, Damas).  ... See more See less

About the artwork

An incredible natural phenomenon occurs once every ten years in the Californian desert. If the meteorological conditions are right – strong rainfall in winter and cold nights – the desert becomes covered in wild flowers. It’s called the “super bloom”. Artist Ina Jungman takes advantage of this gift of nature to immortalise its beauty. To this rare explosion of colour, she adds her personal touch: overprinting. She superimposes her images, creating the illusion of a dream. The audience is immersed in a parallel world, free to mediate on their own thoughts.
