Photographing the sea is an exciting subject. The reflections on the water, the foam of waves, or beaches with fine sand… This treasure of nature is very often associated with holidays, relaxation, and calm as it procures soothing sensations. Photographing marine landscapes is a complex exercise requiring a deep analysis of a number of factors: movement, luminosity, and shutter speed. Luminosity plays a vital role in this kind of photography, as Jules Valentin has well understood. He presents photographs of the sea in black and white , in which the light plays a singular role. His photographs draw the eye and immerse us in a fascinating world. The sea is a constantly evolving element and the waves that compose it constitute a crucial element to be taken into account for these kinds of photographs, as they provide movement and texture, bringing the moment of capture to life. In his various series, Antti Viitala plays with the swells, capturing the motion of the waves and transporting the spectator into the heart of a picturesque and boundless natural world. Other photographers take a different approach. Works by Richard Hirst , Ben Thomas, or Jorge de la Torriente stand out through their choice of original points of view, a new perspective on the diversity of beaches, the colours of beach umbrellas, the sun’s rays, and the contrast between warm and cool colours. In black and white or in colour, this selection is characterised by the diversity of its marine photography, with each image showcasing a seascape that will perfectly suit your interior.
