Der Künstler

Éric Neveu was born in 1947 in Clermont-Ferrand. He owes his career and the discovery of his artistic talent to Daniel Filipacchi, the Honorary Chair of the biggest magazine publishing house in the world. Working alongside him as an assistant accountant, he was very soon entrusted with the direction of art books on Surrealism and American Photorealism. He moved to the United States in 1979 and took advantage of this expatriation to discover photography – the initial theme of his photographs was cars. Erotic photographs followed in 1983 and the design of the magazine Newlook, which was to become the top erotic magazine in Europe from its fourth issue. After a 30-year career in the press, Éric Neveu chose to devote himself to his personal projects in 2000. These dealt with other themes such as aviation, cats, flowers and abstraction. His pictures were shown in 2010 at the Musée du Montparnasse in Paris, but also at the Château de Bosc in the Aveyron in 2013.  ... Mehr sehen Weniger sehen

Rund ums Werk

These photographs came from the ?Aquariums? series shot in 2013. They are photomontages of the Trocadéro basins in Paris and in the city of Monaco. The artist works in two phases: he takes the photographs then modifies them using retouch software, transforming them into ornamental images. He defines himself as an ?image manipulator, to decorative ends?. If we had to imagine marine depths, this is what we would see ? something like a stage where schools of fish with dazzling colours appear against a background in shades of electric blue. The artist Éric Neveu is inspired by hyperrealism in producing his images. Hyperrealism is an artistic movement steeped in the philosophy of Jean Baudrillard, or, in other words in ?the simulation of something that has never really existed.? Hyperrealists use digital photography to create a false reality, a convincing illusion based on a simulation. Éric Neveu allows us to dream in this way.
