Rund ums Werk

Influenced by Cubist experimentation, Johanna Pernot's photo-collages question our relationship to time and space. They most often focus on famous sites that they deconstruct and reformat, multiplying their perspectives and distances. These are constituted by a mosaic of squares, each of which has been cut out into hundreds of photographs taken of a single place, in the course of the artist's travels and according to her preferences. The sum of these photographs represents the sum of thousands of moments that relate an itinerary, a story traversing the ages - that of mythical places such as the pyramids, which are 4 500 years old and take pride of place, like mirages, in the Egyptian desert. The new grid thus formed enables the photographer to question our view of the world. Through breaking up and deconstructing things, Johanna Pernot allows us, unwittingly, to get to the heart of the photographic subject. She invites us to interpret it differently, through an atmosphere or a new story. This psychedelic vision of the Sphinx and Egyptian pyramids, as the artist likes to describe it, was produced in April 2014 on the Giza plateau.

Der Künstler

A young promising artist, French photographer Johanna Pernot studied literature in Strasbourg and Berlin before passing her professional university teaching examination in modern literature in Paris. A writer, translator, journalist and, more recently, an art critic at the Rencontres de la Photographie in Arles, this multi-talented artist enjoys many activities relating to travel, language, and images. A tireless globetrotter, she has travelled the world in search of new sources of inspiration. Marked by Cubist experiments and the polaroid portraits of British artist David Hockney, Johanna Pernot made her first photo-collage in 1999 in London, capturing Trafalgar Square from all angles. By dismantling the photographed subject, she defies optical laws by deconstructing what appeared to be a given, to question our obvious conclusions and question the images. Johanna Pernot recently exhibited her work in Nancy and in Paris at the Hôtel de l'Industrie and at the Salon de la Photographie Contemporaine de Saint-Sulpice.  ... Mehr sehen Weniger sehen
