Der Künstler

After working in the field of management advice for 25 years, Jérôme Guillaumot now devotes the bulk of his time to his passion: animal photography.Through his work, he demonstrates that, in the field of nature photography, the best subjects can just as easily be found in the far away African Savannah as they can a stone's throw away, in the corner of a garden.Jérôme Guillaumot has won awards in many international nature photography competitions, namely the Véolia/Wildlife Photographer of the year (organised by the BBC and the London Museum of Natural History), the German GDT contest, the Montier en Der contest and also that of the Festival de l'Oiseau et de la Nature. He regularly publishes his reports in specialised magazines.  ... Mehr sehen Weniger sehen

Rund ums Werk

This photo that shows the confrontation between a Greenfinch and a European Goldfinch is taken from the 'Voltige' series produced by Jérôme Guillaumot, who has dedicated himself in recent years to capturing he dynamic scenes of European passerines: birds in flight, disputes and aerial combats. This behaviour is still surprising, since we do not see it with the naked eye, owing to its fleetingness and that is only revealed through the lens, capable of freezing them. Through surprising acrobatic postures, the birds reveal their ferocity, elegance and poetry by turns. Sometimes they are fighters, and sometimes dancers. They get up close and personal, squabble or fly in a flurry of feathers. In this scene, we witness a confrontation between two species: The Greenfinch, which is a kind of 'heavyweight' of our garden passerines, versus the European Goldfinch, elegant yet aggressive, who, in spite of a lighter bodyweight, is not afraid to confront its rival. This confrontation only lasts a fraction of a second and the victor will remain, for a few moments, the sole master of the birdfeeder.

PEDRO JARQUE KREBS

Ferocious beauties isolated from all context, as though they had been captured in their most secret intimacy, this is the remarkable artistic gesture of Peruvian photographer Pedro Jarque Krebs, restoring to the animals some of their stolen dignity. After studying philosophy at t...

THIBAUD POIRIER

Born to expatriate parents, Thibaud Poirier spent his childhood in many cities around the globe, but out of Houston, Montreal, Buenos Aires, and Tokyo, it was the latter that has influenced him the most: “I discovered architecture there, in particular by Tadao Ando, and it became...

ALFREDO SANCHEZ

Alfredo Sanchez was not predestined for photography. Born in Mexico in 1954, he studied law and took up a career in the private sector. “My free time was spent playing tennis, horse riding, and let’s not forget my favourite pastime: photography,” he says. Much later, towards the ...
