The Wonders AnneAbout this photograph
Parisian photographer Juliette Jourdain excels in the art of portraiture. This photograph comes from the series The Wonders, which is the result of purely aesthetic research into the geometry of bodies. In a minimalistic decor, the model leans against a brightly lit wall, balancing, and the shadow she projects forms an optical triangle. Photographed several times, this geometric figure is repeated three times in a single image as though to accentuate the contrast obtained by the use of black and white. This constructivist conception of the image is somewhat reminiscent of the aesthetic of the Nouvelle Vision, represented by Mohaly-Nagy in the 1920s and 30s, which relied on the ability of images to broaden visual perception. The spectator must transpose the forms inscribed into an identifiable figure, in order to reconstruct the reality based on a formal network and transform the perception into experience.Read more Read less

Juliette Jourdain is a young French photographer based in Paris. After three years of photo studies at l’EFET, she started a career as an independent professional. Specialising in the art of the portrait, her portfolio subsequently testified to her great aptitude for staging. In a meticulously arranged studio set, her models give her their all in quirky and sophisticated poses. Her inspirations are numerous (fashion photography, cinema, painting) but are above all derived from drawing, which she has practised since she was very young, and thanks to which she enjoys and has become used to using her imagination. Her work published recently in Photo magazine was exhibited at the Rencontres d’Arles in July 2014 as well as at exhibitions in Lyon and Paris in 2015.
