CORDÉE SUR LES ARÊTES DE ROCHEFORT IIAbout this photograph
With his passion for mountains, over the years, Jean François Hagenmuller has turned a sporting quest into a quest for beauty and light. Despite his camera being his constant companion on his numerous high altitude incursions, it was only over time that photography took predominance over the sporting side of mountaineering. The intensity of the light in these high places, the aesthetic of the shapes and materials has become an inexhaustible source of inspiration for him, allowing him to brilliantly combine sensations of balance, vertigo and motion: "Mont Blanc is my gem stone, its tawny granite with its powerful oranges and its delicately poised snow ridges, its blue glaciers and turbulent skies. It is a high altitude island, one of the most spectacular in existence, where the natural elements play a game that's sometimes violent, often subtle, caught between shadow and light, calm and storm, the horizontal and the vertical.
