Richard Bellia

Charlie Winston

About this photograph

Before even reaching the age of 20, Charlie Winston, jazz pianist by training, composed music for ballets, films and theatre. In 2007 he met Peter Gabriel who took him under his wing and invited him to do the first part of his tour. His second album ‘Hobo’ is a reference to nomadic American workers, inspired therefore by a philosophy of life liberated from any material constraint, in search of inner truth. Hobo, which sold more than 3500 copies, is the start of collaboration with the French label Atmosphériques.

The artist
Richard Bellia

It was in October 1980, at a concert by the Cure that Richard Bellia decided to become a rock photographer. In 1985, he moved to London and joined the prestigious Melody Maker, the number one weekly English music magazine. He has since worked for many publications and artists (his photos of Nirvana were reprinted in the 2011 rerelease of Nevermind).
