Haus auf dem BergAbout this photograph
Ellger?s interest in photography was born out of digital photography and its possibilities in terms of image processing. She creates scenes which are incongruous with the picturesque landscapes. In an imaginary Eden, far from civilisation, the viewer conceives fantasy protagonists living on the fringe of society and, above all, beyond the physical reality of the world. The pastel colours and simple patterns processed like Epinal prints, take us back to our childhood. Christine Ellger draws her inspiration from this poetical world of children?s literature and fantasy alike. The photographer demonstrates that beyond the strict mimetic function, photography is also a means to represent a fantastical and playful world.Read more Read less

Christine Ellger has practised photography since she was 11 years old. The arrival of digital technology and the possibilities it offers for retouching was a real trigger for her. Beyond taking a good photo, Christine Ellger thus looks for themes that will provide sufficient material to create montages. Christine Ellger’s pictures do not contain a sociocritical message but reflect the romantic side of life.
