About this photograph :
Danse ou Duel ?
Arctic terns grace the sky high above an island in Otto Fjord. My head spins to capture the fleeting beauty of this intimate spectacle; a Pas de Deux for my eyes only. Yet, ornithologist’s question, is this behavior sexual or territorial? After spending the summer in the Arctic, Arctic terns fly 12,000 miles to Antarctica – the longest regular migration by any known animal.
