About this photograph :
Happy love pills
Having one's fish-seller as patron is uncommon in the photography scene. It is very much the case of Anne-Catherine Becker-Echivard who disguises her fish, stages them in a familiar settings, so creating true genre scenes. In undoing the frame of the life of these marine animals, the universe that she offers us is a human metaphor out of ordinary.
« The question that everyone asks me : why fish rather than another animal … Maybe because man descends from the fish… Maybe because the fish, an animal that for us is at the same time so strange and so familiar, provokes in us a sentiment of proximity at the same time symbolic and reassuring. In my photographs, I do not search to represent either good or evil. Like the image of my life, it is at the same time funny, plodding, happy, tender and difficult. There is often a lot of tragedy, of sadness or of pain in the comic. It is that which touches me. It is that which I try to translate. »
