LE MANS CLASSIC 2010About this photograph
Although he was the artistic director for the manufacturer Citroën for over fifteen years, Laurent Nivalle developed his own point of view on the automotive industry. The Le Mans Classic race assembles all of the most prestigious car brands. Emblematic personalities and their legendary cars are brought together for a weekend and race for a full hour on the mythical circuit of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, over a 13.65 km course. Thanks to soft colour rendering, the French photographer helps us to travel through time and manages to capture the very special culture, effervescence and retro atmosphere that reigns during this event, in which the aficionados of beautiful cars, bearing all the nostalgia of a certain idea of the passage of time, meet every two years in Le Mans city, located in the northwest of France.

As artistic director of the Citroën group for 13 years, 39 year-old Laurent Nivalle stood out from the crowd at Citroën. With the look of a rocker, permanently in jeans, he walks briskly along the corridors of the Vélisy Villacoublay site. Always on the go, this lover of the acoustic guitar has pursued his goals flawlessly. Instinct and a tendency to think outside the square have earned him a reputation as both the mascot of Citroën's style department and as a free agent. This is an ideal position for this artist, whose freedom is a major asset. Down to earth, full of humour, yet ambitious, Laurent Nivalle saunters through life with his 5D slung over his shoulder, capturing everything that moves… Today, he produces all of the images for the Citroën Style department, as well as the marketing films for the DS and Citroën trademarks… He is making his own… mark! His clear, personal and uncompromising work makes him one of the most coveted of photographers, not only within the automobile sector, but also in the world of haute couture and prêt à porter. His unique brand of colour rendering is his trademark, as demonstrated again here in this superb Le Mans Classic series.
