The Artist
Mathieu Simonet

Mathieu Simonet started learning photography at the age of 17. Inspired by the black and white photographs of Edouard Boubat and Leonard Freed, his first works were taken in the streets of Paris. He later studied cinema and trained as an actor, then a director. Independently of the photo reports that he produced during his travels to the four corners of the earth, he became the chief photographer for the film Winged Migration, produced and co-directed by Jacques Perrin. This adventure lasted 3 years, allowing him to fly with the birds and photograph them in flight. In 2004 and 2010, he directed two short films, Le Carnet Rouge then Prunelle et Mélodie. All of these years away did not stop him from returning to photography for the purposes of the film Oceans, Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud’s new opus to nature. Mathieu Simonet is currently participating in the shooting of the film The Seasons, and preparing his first feature film as a director with Galatée Films, Après les Étoiles.
