Alexei Riboud
Light Buildings
About this photographThe Tokyo néons series made in 2008 is the fruit of late-night wandering in Shinjuku and Shibuya in Tokyo. The advertising signs, which are often vertical, infinitely line the avenues. This proliferation of advertising signs of course is reminiscent of Pop Art and Warhol. The accumulation of neon signs also questions consumer society and the Japanese way of life. Like a Prévert inventory, the night lights do the sales patter for the passers-by and indicate the plethora of offers inherent to the Shibuya and Shinjuku districts.
