Richard Silver

Richard Silver lives and works in New York. Since 2001, he has travelled the world, camera in hand. His many voyages constitute his main source of inspiration and the starting point for his artistic approach. He mainly focuses on highly touristic locations (Vegas, Mykonos, Mexico, London) and some of the most emblematic monuments on the planet (The Great Wall, the Sun Pyramid in Teotihuacan, the Palace of Westminster) but from original points of view, always overlooking the landscape he is photographing. Based on real subjects and captured to scale, he creates mini worlds that are presented in a manner similar to models. The very real figures appear to be figurines, like actors in an artificially animated virtual world. By thus removing the borders between fiction and reality, the photographer succeeds in disrupting the spectators? gaze as they observe sites that seem both strange and familiar. Now a well-known photographer, his work was shown in 2002 at the prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
