LES COLLINES DORÉES DU LANDMANNALAUGARAbout this photograph
Alexandre Deschaumes likes to photograph the most imposing and vertiginous natural landscapes. Seduced by the twilight atmospheres that nature can offer at rare and precious moments, the artist is able to sublimate these phenomena by playing on the light and its contrasts, lending a mysterious character to his compositions. His sources of inspiration are multiple, stemming as much from literature, from the strange worlds of H.P. Lovecraft or J.R.R. Tolkien, as from art history, from the Romantic landscapes of Caspar David Friedrich or William Turner, through to the landscape photography of Ansel Adams, or his contemporary, Vincent Munier. Appealing to the inherent means of the medium, the photographer is able to work out of doors, in conditions that are often difficult, and use precise light filters that enable him to retranscribe his personal, sensitive vision. The main guideline of his work is always the same: to convey the emotion felt before the grandeur of the landscape.Read more Read less

Self-taught photographer Alexandre Deschaumes began his artistic practice in 2002, in order to assuage his thirst for experiences and emotions. The many forests, mountains and waterfalls throughout the Rhône-Alpes region where he now lives, all represent, in his eyes, sources of inspiration for his work and for contemplation. As with his music (his other passion), his photographs enable him to develop a perception of the omnipotence of oneiric and majestic nature, a vision that he regularly shares at the photography workshops and conferences he has organised since 2009. The year 2011 was marked by his meeting with director Mathieu Le Lay and the production of a documentary film La Quête d'Inspiration [The Quest for Inspiration], which won several prizes and was broadcast on travel channels such as Montagne TV, Ushuaïa TV, or TV5 Monde. His photographs have also been showcased at exhibitions, including the Festival Image-Montagne in Pau, or the Festival de la Photo de Mouans-Sartoux in 2014.
