THE JOURNEY 01About this photograph
German artist Nicole Holz is interested in maritime and rural landscapes and produces dense visuals compositions with narrative power. They are poetic works, created through long exposure effects and slow movements with her camera. They render visible what the eye can't see. For the spectator, these abstract images full of imagination and inspiration thus touch our senses and invite us to meditate on the landscape around us. Regarding this series produced between 2012 and 2013 in Germany and Italy, the photographer says: "In your imagination, these photographs become blurred. The sand returns to dust. The waves rise up in horizontal lines. The colours appear pale and alive at the same time, and yet, they are reduced to a minimum. The clouds are also distorted and are frozen in the sky, in a stationary position. It's a silent, immobile journey."Read more Read less

Born in 1971, Nicole Holz works as an independent photographer near Frankfurt, in Germany. As a child, she discovered photography using an old Pentax model. Nonetheless, it wasn't until the digital revolution in 2009 that she became highly interested in the medium. Her artistic work is mainly based on series pertaining to nature, landscapes and whimsical worlds that do not adhere to the traditional rules of photography. Finding inspiration in abstraction, she creates surrealistic compositions that are stagings caught up in movement, but that are both fluid and meditative, leaving spectators immersed in their deepest thoughts. Nicole Holz uses the term visual philosophy. She exhibits her photographs during cultural and artistic events in Germany and recently participated in the international arts fair in São Paulo, Brazil (SP-Arte Latin American Art Fair 2015).
