Open FocusAbout this photograph
This photograph is part of a series of animal portraits. For centuries many theorists have tried to find similarities between appearance and behaviour. Later on, following the example of the painter and art theorist Lebrun (XVIIth century), parallels were researched between humans faces and animal heads in order to define characteristics. Peters chooses to produce animal portraits aiming to reveal the very nature of their character. These images illustrate a sublime nature and nobility peculiar to the animal kingdom encouraging us to contemplate animals as they have never been considered before. Fierce, vulnerable, heretical or unpredictable in turn, the animals photographed in black and white by Ruud Peters become fascinating.Read more Read less
