Crystal Mountain

About this photograph

For this photograph entitled ?Crystal Mountain?, the photographer duo staged a still life, consisting of souvenirs and objects derived from remote and exotic fictive journeys. The variety and intensity of the colours lends a virtual and almost surrealistic character to the composition, which largely contributes to the playful dimension of the scene.

The artist
AORTA

Living in Gothenburg, Sweden, photographers Marco Grizelj and Kristian Krän have collaborated since 1996 under the name AORTA. Alongside their personal artistic practice, both have worked for major companies such as Harvey Nichols, IKEA, Panasonic, Tuborg, Absolut Vodka, American Movie Channel, and have produced fashion photographs for famous magazines such as Schön Magazine or 125 Magazine. After graduating from the photography school of the University of Gothenburg, they decided to combine their talents and make their shared vision of photography a reality. They now create very powerful images that aim to reveal an imaginary world that is both surrealistic and playful. Drawing their sources of inspiration from illustrations or cinema, they assemble and associate different fragments of composed images to create a partially documentary world. An exhibition was held in their honour in London in 2014, the same year that they received the prize for the Moscow photography competition in the fashion photography category.
