FRANCK HORVAT
Aspen - Nevada USA
About this photographThe series ' Portraits d'arbres ' (Portraits of trees) undertaken between 1976 and 1986 is the product of an introspective work. Frank Horvat marks a pause in his career. Busy trimming the trees of his second house and putting down in writing his childhood, he realizes that the two activities are linked. The image ' Chêne Dordogne ' (A walnut tree in Dordogne) interrogates a fundamental chasm between subject and character. Here again the genres are transcended because the exercise of landscape is treated according to the codes of a portrait.

Frank Horvat was born in 1928 in Abbazia in Italie. He first studied academic drawingonly to quickly dedicate himself to photography. True jack - of - all - trades, his workextends over genres without ever closing itself inside one domain. By turns, reportervoyager, great photographer of fashion or intimist artist, his photography operates asa veritable mode of expression, without worrying about codes or epochs. He has notably worked for the magazines Life and Vogue. His style owes as much to thestrict princi-pals of a Cartier Bresson as to the digital evolutions of the last decadeof the 20th century. This oscillation between staging and simple witnessing foundsthe singularity of each of his images.www.horvatland.com
